The Department of HHS has released two new HIPAA privacy guides to clarify frequently misunderstood issues. The guides explain explain when a provider can share a patients health information with the patients friends, family or those caring for that patient and target areas of HIPAA privacy rules that are frequently misunderstood by health care providers and patients.

A new website, www.sba.gov/hsa/, has been announced by the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Treasury Department. The intention of the website is to educate small businesses as to the benefits of health savings accounts.

The Internal Revenue Service is postponing deadlines for return filing, tax payment and other acts due between September 1, 2008 and January 5, 2009 for those taxpayers in the areas of Louisiana affected by Hurrican Gustav.
