Benefits of HSAs Apparent as Account Numbers and Balances Increase

Health Savings Accounts total $11.7 billion in assets, according to a recent survey and research led by Devenir, an investment firm that specializes in providing investment options for HSAs.

The study primarily consisted of the top 50 custodians in the HSA market.The study shows that by June 2011, the total number of HSA accounts rose to 6.3 million with assets totaling $11.7 billion, an increase of 28 percent for accounts, and a 31 percent increase in assets from last year. This is a 17 percent growth in assets so far in 2011. The average account balance continues to grow as the amounts in 2011 rose to $1,845, up from $1,640 at the end of 2010.
