Health Care Subsidy for Retired Workers

10. May 2010 08:25

As the new health care reform law will be introduced in phases over the next four years, the Department of Health and Human Services will begin the Early Retiree Program June 1, 2010 and will assist eligible employer plans and individuals with the cost of health care coverage and health care.

The Early Retiree Reinsurance Program will help employers pay for health care coverage for some retired workers (ages 55 to 64) who don't yet qualify for Medicare. The program ends on Jan. 1, 2014 when early retirees will be able to choose from the additional coverage options that will be available in the health insurance exchanges in the open market.
