House Votes on 1099 Reporting

4. March 2011 14:18

The House voted Thursday to repeal the burdensome 1099 tax reporting requirements imposed as a provision of PPACA for small businesses. Both Democrats and Republicans, as well as the White House, supported repealing the provision, which requires businesses to report all purchases of $600 or more to the IRS. The provision was included in last year’s health overhaul to help pay for the expansion of health insurance coverage under the new health care law.

The 314-112 vote to repeal yesterday follows on the heels of the Senate’s February vote to do the same. Lawmakers are now at odds over an acceptable way to offset the estimated $20 billion loss in revenue that will result from the repeal.
